Amateur Hour: August 9-11 Region Championship Results

Another intense weekend of amateur baseball in central Minnesota concludes with region championship weekend. With region play now in the books, let’s see recap the last three days and see which teams secured their spot in the 2024 Minnesota Baseball Association State Tournament.

Friday, August 9

Alexandria – 10 @ Urbank – 3

  • The Black Sox are able to score double digit runs to advance to the Region 16C Championship, where they would fall 11-7 to the Section 16C champion Sauk Centre Titans
  • Congratulations to the Bombers on a terrific season!

Midway – 5 @ Perham – 8

  • A 4-run 9th inning lifts the Pirates further in the Region 14C playoffs
    • That’s thanks, in part, to 4 RBI from Gabe Pankonin and an outfield assist from Evan Kovash who threw out a runner at the plate
  • Congratulations to the Lake and Pine Champion Snurdbirds on a great season!

Saturday, August 10

Ada – 3 vs. Detroit Lakes – 2

  • Blaine Henderson pitches a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts through 8 innings as the season for DL comes to a close
  • Congratulations to the Ligers on a great season!

Deer Creek – 3 @ Perham – 5

  • Perham makes their way through the elimination bracket to claim the second state tournament bid for Region 14C!
  • Congratulations to the Shockers on an outstanding season!

New York Mills – 9 @ Perham – 6

  • The Millers top the Pirates to take home the Region 14C championship!
  • Logan Small is named the 2024 Region 14C MVP
