Empty Stocking Fund Generates Thousands of Dollars For Needy Families

The 92nd annual ‘Empty Stocking Fund’ was held on November 28th at Wadena – Deer Creek Middle/High School. It was a huge success once again, raising $12,770 (unofficially), helping raise money for families in need during the holidays.

Several talented musicians, singers, and choir/band groups combined their talents to raise money via a live broadcast telethon on Hubbard Radio’s KWAD AM 920 Wednesday night for people that can’t afford food and gifts for their families. Money raised will help area families have a Christmas meal, toys, and warm clothing this holiday season. KWAD Radio in Wadena has broadcast this event live for over 50 years.

On air personalities Corey Tackmann and Brad Williams worked with WDC Music Director Mike Ortmann to keep the 3 hour event running smoothly, the broadcast kept listeners informed of the pledge phone number and updated money raised as it came in to the event, as well as introduced the various Musicians as they performed.

Derek Falter, Regional general manager at Hubbard Radio in Wadena and Alexandria said:

“We take a great deal of pride in being part of such a tremendous community event.  In an area that works so hard to support one another we are just trying to do our part!

Hubbard radio in Wadena is committed to its strong role as a community partner, and Recognizes the important role this event in the local community, and also would like to thank Kelly Wong and Diane Peters who help organize this event annually.
