There’s a lot to be said about how good a conference is when 5 of the 8 teams are still alive in their section playoffs.
I mean honestly it’s bordering on ridiculous.
The Section 5A Championship is today in Pierz and it features two PRC teams: Sebeka and Menahga.
The Trojans probably had some expectations to play in this game since they were the top seed in the subsection. Menahga, however, is the 6 seed and they’re straight up pounding people this tournament. They’ve scored 50 runs in the tournament so far and given up just 23. It’s an all PRC section championship and that’s pretty cool. (Listen today on the Superstation at 5:00)
The Section 6A Championship will also feature a Park Region team and it will be one of the two prominent teams we’ve seen out of this section the last few years and Parkers Prairie and New York Mills, who have combined for 6 State Tourney appearances over the last 7 seasons.
And the 8AA Championship could very well feature another PRC team with Wadena-Deer Creek, who need just one more win to advance to the section title game.
Oh by the way, Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale offered up a first round upset, Ottertail Central lost Perham- who is playing in the section title game, and Pillager lost to Pierz- who is playing in the section title game and is a perennial Class AA power.
For sure, the PRC will be represented by at least one team in the State Baseball Tournament and there could be as many as three.
It’s a seriously impressive run for a conference that has already shown pretty major state tournament success over the years.
Baseball is so cool.
Did we mention all the state participants in every sport of every season all year long? Good job, Park Region.
