Victim Identified After Semi Crash In Cass County

Authorities have identified the Staples man who died after two semis crashed in Cass County on Tuesday, July 14.

The Minnesota State Patrol said 75-year-old Durlin Astle of Staples was killed in the crash that occurred just before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in Poplar Township.

Authorities said one driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Cass County Road 23 and Highway 64 and hit the other truck, but the crash report did not make it clear which driver was driving which truck.

According to the state patrol, Astle was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the other truck, 47-year-old Paul Hartnett of St. Louis Park, was not injured in the crash.
