Wadena-Deer Creek Schools will be hosting a community barbecue, ribbon-cutting and open house at the elementary on Monday, Sept. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 5:45 p.m. by the playground. The public is invited to walk through the school to see the renovations and improvements made over the past two summers. Project manager, ICS Consulting, will be providing a free picnic-style meal.

“We are excited and proud of the elementary project and we can’t wait for the community to have a firsthand look at all the updates and changes at WDC Elementary,” said Lee Westrum, WDC School superintendent.
This summer’s Phase II work included a complete makeover for the east and south side of the school and auditorium. A new bus pick-up and drop-off zone to provide a safe area off the street and free from traffic for WDC’s youngest students get on and off the bus. As a bonus, the bus area will provide 75 parking spaces for the auditorium in the evening and on weekends.
The lower-level classrooms, library and the 3rd- and 4th-grade wing have all been remodeled this summer too. In addition, the cafeteria and all of the corridors have received new flooring this summer. The school has a entirely new mechanical systems in place, and students and staff will find a comfortable and well-ventilated environment for learning and teaching.
