Grant Dierkhising Named New Head Coach for Perham Boys Basketball

Perham Yellowjacket

PERHAM, Minn. (KWAD) — The Perham Yellowjackets are ushering in a new era for their boys basketball program. Activities Director Erin Anderson announced that longtime assistant coach and educator Grant Dierkhising has been selected as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach, pending approval by the Independent School District 549 Board on May 14.

“We are thrilled to announce Grant Dierkhising as the next Head Coach of the Yellowjacket Boys Basketball program!” said Anderson. “Grant’s years of dedication, leadership, and passion for our student-athletes have made a lasting impact, and we have the utmost respect for the way he has poured his heart into this program. We’re excited for this new chapter under his guidance and can’t wait to see the continued growth and success of Yellowjacket basketball.”

Dierkhising steps into the role following the resignation of Kyle Haberman, who led the Yellowjackets to a Heart O’ Lakes Conference Championship in the 2024–25 season. Haberman also served as a Social Studies teacher at Perham High School.

Dierkhising, a Physical Education and Health teacher in the Perham Public Schools system, brings more than 11 years of coaching experience with the program. He worked under longtime coach Dave Cresap and remained on staff when Haberman took over. In addition to basketball, Dierkhising is also an assistant coach for the Yellowjacket football team and has contributed to sports coverage as an analyst for the 549 Media Network.

“I am extremely excited to be the next Head Coach for Perham Boys Basketball!” Dierkhising said. “This program has had decades of success, and with how supportive the district, school board, administration, community, and parents are, I am eager to get started and carry on that tradition. With over eleven years of coaching experience here in Perham, I feel confident and prepared to lead our student-athletes, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”

The official hiring of Dierkhising will be finalized following board approval on May 14.
