NEVIS, Minn. (KWAD) — Hubbard County authorities are investigating a fatal drowning that occurred in the early morning hours of July 19th at the public swimming beach on Lake Belle Taine in Nevis.

According to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes, deputies were dispatched at 2:23 a.m. following a report of a possible drowning. While en route, they were informed that bystanders were performing CPR on the victim.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a group of individuals attempting to resuscitate a male who had been pulled from the water. Deputies and first responders immediately joined in life-saving efforts until North Ambulance arrived. Despite these efforts, the victim could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Aiden Thompson of Nevis.

An initial investigation revealed that a group of people had gone swimming earlier that morning. As the group was exiting the water, one of the individuals jumped off the end of the dock and discovered Thompson floating face-down.

An autopsy determined that Thompson died from a cervical spine fracture.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
