BRAINERD, Minn.– Brainerd Police Department responded to a tip by Brainerd High School staff concerning threatening remarks made by a student.

Leaders of the Brainerd Police Department say it’s important for the community to know that at no time was there immediate threat. Also, that no continued threats to the Brainerd School District’s students, staff, or facilities have been identified.

According to a press release from BPD, the department was contacted by Brainerd High School staff who quickly reported that a student had been overheard making threatening comments the day before.

A 15-year-old male student was identified by police as the one who made the threats. The student was taken into custody for felony threats of violence and transported to a juvenile detention center.

“Ensuring the safety of our school community is a team effort. If you hear a threatening comment or see something concerning, we urge you to report it immediately,” said Brainerd Police Chief John Davis. “One might think it’s not a big deal or that someone else will handle it, but even a small piece of information can be crucial in preventing a dangerous situation. By speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, we can all contribute to keeping our schools safe.”
