Bertha-Hewitt shines behind Rach’s runner-up at Little Crow Invite in Spicer

Bradyrach

SPICER, Minn (KWAD) — Bertha-Hewitt made noise at the Little Crow Invitational in Spicer on Thursday, headlined by senior Brady Rach, who stormed to 2nd place in 16:54.5 in the boys 5K. Rach settled in with the lead pack early and pulled away from most of the field over the back half, finishing behind only Sauk Centre’s meet champion Logan Wiehoff (16:27.2 PR).

Senior Gunnar Barthel added a strong 23rd in 18:18.8, with senior Henry Lockwood (46th, 20:05.3) and junior Jakub Stovicer (83rd, 21:25.4) rounding out the Bears’ boys finishers. Bertha-Hewitt did not post a team score (fewer than five runners), but the top-end punch from Rach and steady support from Barthel point to upward momentum heading into the heart of September.

On the girls’ side, senior Miette Hansel paced Bertha-Hewitt in 22:36.6 for 32nd. Senior Mckayla Kapphahn (55th, 24:33.8) and sophomore Aulani Johnson (73rd, 25:48.4) completed the Bears’ trio. Like the boys, the girls ran short of a full scoring lineup but continued to stack valuable race reps on a deep invitational course.
