ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (KWAD) — A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Broadway Street in Alexandria.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers were called at 5:17 a.m. to the 1700 block of Broadway, where a 2014 Honda Odyssey traveling northbound struck the woman as she attempted to cross the street heading east. Police said she was not in a marked crosswalk at the time.
The driver of the minivan, identified as 49-year-old Michael Rost of Alexandria, stopped immediately and remained at the scene. A witness who was traveling south on Broadway also provided a statement to officers.
Investigators noted that it was dark and raining at the time of the crash, conditions they believe contributed to the incident.
The woman was initially taken by North Memorial Ambulance to Alomere Health in Alexandria and later transferred by ground ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital for further treatment. Her condition was not immediately released.
Alexandria Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash to contact the department.
