
MINNEAPOLIS — Central Minnesota tennis was well represented at the 2025 MSHSL Individual State Championships, with players from Staples-Motley, Wadena-Deer Creek, Crosby-Ironton, Fergus Falls, Osakis, and Minnewaska Area each taking the courts at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis and Lifetime Bloomington South.
Class A Singles:
Crosby-Ironton’s Tori Oehrlein powered through the opening round with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Olivia Danielson of Minnewaska Area, advancing to the quarterfinals where she defeated Brooke Boland of Pine City 6-4, 7-5. Oehrlein’s strong play has carried her into the state semifinals, where she will top-seeded Chloe Alley of Minnehaha Academy at 8:00 am on Thursday.
Osakis senior Leah Maddock also reached the semifinals in the Class A singles draw. Maddock topped Ruby Leach of East Grand Forks (6-1, 6-1) in her opener, then handled Keyana Haler of St. James (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) in the quarterfinals before she matches up against #3 Nellie Larson of St. Paul Academy in Friday’s semifinal.
Minnewaska Area’s Olivia Danielson bounced back after her loss to Oehrlein, winning in the consolation bracket with a commanding performance over Brianna Nelson of Yellow Medicine East (6-2, 6-0) and advancing to Friday morning’s consolation semifinals against Elizabeth Shores of St. James.
Staples-Motley’s Ronnie Noska also represented the area in the singles bracket. Noska defeated Emma Siert of Lake City (6-2, 6-3) in the first round, before falling to Larson 6-3, 6-0 to end her season.
Class A Doubles:
In a local matchup at state, Wadena-Deer Creek’s Anna Fiemeyer and Kaylee Endres squared off against Pequot Lakes’ Nikki Crocker and Emme Sullvan, losing a hard-fought match 7-5, 7-5. Fiemeyer and Endres bounced back in the consolation round with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Bella Weisser and Ava Drevlow of Osakis. The WDC duo will face off against Mounds Park Academy’s Maahi Bhalla and Solveig Rahm in the consolation semifinals on Friday morning.
Minnewaska Area’s Alia Randt and Rachel Rankin also advanced through the main draw, defeating Cannon Falls’ Tennessen and Nerison 6-1, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals, where they defeated Addy Axtell and Emma Axtell of Mora 6-3, 604. Now in the State Semifinals, they’ll take on top-seeded Brec duo Abbey Perry and Addie Berman.
Class AA Singles:
In Class AA singles, Kaia Anderson of the Perham/New York Mills co-op advanced past the first round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kendall Rice of Southwest Christian. In Round Two, she fell to top-seed Sam Williams of Mankato East 6-0, 6-2, ending her season.
Class AA Doubles:
Fergus Falls sent two strong doubles teams to Lifetime Bloomington South. The Ruby Ellison–Ashtyn Lill tandem opened with a win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s Mae Breunig and Audrey Wolff 6-3, 6-0, then took a three-set thriller against Catherine Sorenson and Mollie Hollerman or Orono 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. They’ll face Hill-Murray’s Sedona Stumpf and Brooke Gabel in the semifinal round on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Fergus’ Hattie Fullhart–Dillyn Lill pairing competed both in the main and consolation brackets, showcasing Fergus Falls’ doubles depth. Their first-round battle against St. Peter’s Kylie Southworth and Ella Dirks ended in a close defeat (2-6, 6-4, 6-4), but the Otters bounced back to the consolation semifinals after a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Maddie Ring and Eva Huotari of Delani, where they take on The Blake School’s tandem of Camila Pardo and Svara Arimilli on Friday morning.
Class AAA Doubles:
In Class AAA doubles, the Alexandria duo of Kennedy Stevenson and Addison Stevenson dropped their Round One Doubles match to Ana Medina and Eliana Elder of Rochester Mayo 6-2, 6-2. The Stevensons bounced back in the first round of consolation play with a 7-6 (12), 6-3 win over Olivia McLaughlin and Emerson Donnohue of Stillwater. They’ll face Lily Christensen and Keagan Van Asten of Chanhassen in the consolation semis on Friday morning.
