Wolverines Calm Green Wave As WDC Advances To 8AA Volleyball Championship Match

MOORHEAD, Minn.– Wadena-Deer Creek (18-11) took on the East Grand Forks Green Wave (18-13) in the Section 8AA Volleyball Semi-Final Match from Moorhead High School.

The Wolverines came away with a victory in 4 sets to advance to advance to their second 8AA championship game in the last three seasons. This is the third straight season the Wolverines reached the semi-final match.

In the match, the set scored went 25-15 (WDC), 25-21 (WDC), 25-15 (EGF), and 25-20 (WDC).

Payton Gravelle once again powered the Wolverine attack on Tuesday night. The junior came away with 23 kills in the match along with 1 service ace. Kennedy Ness notched a 15 kill performance with a pair of service aces. Celia Rinio kept the Wolverine offense balanced with 7 kills, while Jada Dykhoff knocked in 4 kills in the match.

Brooke Hecht of East Grand Forks finished with 7 kills. Senior libero Laurel Kolstoe ended the night with 4 service aces.

The Green Wave’s season comes to a close with an overall record of 18-14.

WDC (19-11) will get a rematch with the Hawley Nuggets, the team that knocked the Wolverines out of the postseason a year ago. Match start is at 7 p.m. from Moorhead High School.
