BROWERVILLE, Minn.– After back to back winning seasons, the Browerville-Eagle Valley Tiger football team is looking to keep that streak going.
“I’ll tell you what, we’re working hard,” said Petermeier.
Head Coach Ribsy Petermeier has been at the helm of Tiger football for 24 years.
His latest squad is looking to reload after graduating a class of nine seniors that played in all three phases of the game. Now coach Petermeier is hoping his nine seniors and eight juniors can rise to the challenge, even if it means stepping out of their comfort zone.
“It’s a practice by practice situation. It’s a drill by drill. As long as you see them getting better each time they do something… We just want to get better each and every practice and get us ready to play Frazee that first Friday night of the season,” said Petermeier. “They’re ready and they just want to play. and if you got kids that want to play, good things will happen to them.”
A returning contributor from last season is senior running back and linebacker Kabian Twardowski.
“It should be a good year and hopefully kick it off with a bang,” said Twardowski.
He is ready to make his presence felt on the field and as a senior leader by building comradery with his teammates.
“Football camp with the boys. You make some of the best memories you possibly will and you’ll remember them forever,” said Twardowski. “I feel like on the football field too you have to be more vocal, be more of a leader and even at practice you got the younger kids.”
Senior lineman Tate strom can’t wait to play underneath the Friday night lights in his final football season.
“There is nothing better than the cheering and the music playing right before and the energy that’s in the crowd,” said Strom.
And there are a couple teams he is especially ready to go up against.
“All of them but [Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa] or [Upsala/Swanville Area] are going to be a couple of our harder teams so it would be fun to play them and have a chance to beat them,” said Strom.
The Tigers will travel to Frazee on August 29 to kickoff their season. To coach Petermeier, it doesn’t matter who is on the schedule as long as his team has an opportunity to compete.
“I’ve been doing this long enough and I tell the kids all the time, every single Friday night should be exactly the same for you. We don’t have a rival. Every Friday night is a rivalry for us because we want to win that game. Whoever we play next that shouldn’t matter to ya. It’s who you’re playing this friday night,” said Petermeier. “Football is a little different because you only get eight times to show what you can do and you better be ready each and every time.”
