Miner’s Incorporated is expanding its footprint with a tentative agreement to acquire S&R Quisberg Inc.’s Cub Foods and Supervalu stores in Brainerd, Baxter, and Pequot Lakes.
As part of the deal, the Baxter Cub Foods will permanently close in September 2025, citing market consolidation and efficiency. The Brainerd and Pequot Lakes locations will be rebranded as Super One Foods and continue operations under Miner’s management.
The transition marks the end of an era for the Quisberg family, who have operated grocery stores in the region since 1985. President Chris Quisberg expressed gratitude to employees and the community, saying the decision to retire was difficult but timely. Miner’s, a fourth-generation family-owned business, has been serving the Brainerd Lakes area for over 40 years and sees this acquisition as a way to strengthen its local presence.
Approximately 235 employees will be affected by the closure and layoffs beginning September 25, 2025. Miner’s has committed to offering interviews to workers for positions at the newly branded Super One Foods stores. The stores will undergo remodeling and operational changes, including updated pricing and product placement.
