
BRAINERD, Minn (KWAD) — The Detroit Lakes varsity dance team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season Friday night at the Central Lakes Conference Championship, competing against top programs from across the league at Brainerd.
The Lakers placed fifth in Jazz and sixth in High Kick, finishing tied for fifth overall in the CLC standings with ROCORI. Detroit Lakes posted its highest average jazz score of the season, while maintaining consistent scoring in kick.
“Lakers earned their highest average score of the season in jazz tonight and held steady in kick scores,” said head coach Britton Ramsey. “The Lakers ended in 5th place for Jazz and 6th place for kick, tying with Rocori for 5th overall in the conference.”
In the Jazz category, Detroit Lakes recorded a total score of 461, highlighted by strong marks in choreography and visual effectiveness. The Lakers finished behind Brainerd, Sartell, Sauk Rapids-Rice and St. Cloud in the eight-team field.
Detroit Lakes followed with a 426 total score in High Kick, finishing sixth overall. The team earned solid execution scores while competing in a deep conference field that included state-ranked programs.
Beyond competitive results, Detroit Lakes was recognized for its sportsmanship and leadership. The Lakers were awarded the CLC Sportsmanship Award, tied with ROCORI, and the CLC Coaching Staff of the Year Award, shared with St. Cloud.
