BAGLEY, Minn (KWAD) – The Bagley Invitational turned into a banner night for two area programs on Tuesday as Parkers Prairie’s girls and Park Rapids Area’s boys turned in commanding performances on a fast 5K course that drew schools from across northern Minnesota.
For Parkers Prairie, senior Norah Froslee once again proved she is one of the top runners in the state, winning the girls’ race in 20:11.0. Froslee used a strong second mile to break free from the pack and never looked back, giving the Panthers a low stick that set the tone for the evening.
But Parkers Prairie was far from a one-runner show. Senior Sophie Pfeffer (8th, 21:23.7) and sophomore Kaylee Vogt (9th, 21:30.2) packed inside the top 10 to provide big scoring support. Freshman Chloe Patrick chipped in a clutch 16th-place finish (22:07.6), while Izabella Vogt sealed the scoring five with a 67th-place run in 26:54.4.
That effort added up to 84 team points and a second-place overall finish, just five points shy of champion Barnesville’s 79.
Depth also showed in the supporting roles of Olivia Christians (86th, 28:53.7) and Jaeda Porter (87th, 29:07.5), who provided the extra insurance that could prove vital in larger meets later in the season.
Park Rapids Area put five inside the top 50 to lock down 4th place (116 pts) at the meet. Greta Galzki led the Panthers in 14th (21:46.6), Madeline Brandt followed in 18th (22:19.9), Katelynn Henderson added 22nd (22:35.0), Grace Etter scored 38th (23:57.1), and Sarah Hartung closed the five in 47th (24:39.2). Breanna Deblieck finished 73rd (27:24.6) and Noelle Bradt placed 82nd (28:12.8).
On the boys’ side, Park Rapids Area made its own statement with a second-place team finish against a field loaded with state-ranked individuals. The Panthers tallied 59 points, falling only to Bemidji’s winning score of 46.
Sophomore Jack Mitteness led the way with a brilliant race, crossing third overall in 17:27.2. His even pacing and late-race push kept him in striking distance of the lead pack. Fellow sophomore Cesar Quixan Gutierrez added another front-runner for Park Rapids, claiming sixth place in 18:14.4.
The depth of the Panthers’ lineup proved decisive. Veteran contributors Christian Thorson (15th, 19:09.0) and Tyler Huot (16th, 19:23.5) ran stride for stride through the middle of the race to secure valuable points. Freshman Caleb Mack closed out the scoring in 29th place at 19:58.8, while Wrigley Clark (38th, 20:34.3) and Leo Kueber (41st, 20:46.5) rounded out a pack that finished with all seven runners in the top 42.
The lone Parkers Prairie boy runner, sophomore Landon Hermanson, finished 84th (23:54.7).
