FERGUS FALLS, Minn.– Henning Hornets senior guard Kale Misegades crosses 2,000 career points in a convincing mid-season victory Monday afternoon in Fergus Falls against the Wahpeton Huskies.
Misegades came into Monday afternoon’s contest needing just one point to reach the milestone.
After a couple misses to start his day, Misegades brought the ball up the floor against tight man defense. He dribbled hard with his left to the same-side elbow before stepping back behind the arc, creating space for a three-point shot. Misegades drilled it. Scoring his 2,000th career point and pulling the Hornets back into the game trailing 6-5 with 15:20 to go in the first half. Henning would eventually pull away with a 82-57 win against Wahpeton.
“My thoughts were to just play the game, let it play out. I hope I could get one [point] and I got it done,” said Misegades. “I wanted to get [scoring 2,000th career point] done and over with. So my first shot that was a good look I had and I took it and it went in.”
A foot injury held Misegades out for a majority of his junior season. A campaign where he would’ve likely crossed that number. No matter when it happened, Misegades says the moment is still just as special.
“It feels good,” said Misegades. “I’ve been playing for a long time now so it’s not any crazy feat but it feels good to get it out of the way and just move forward now.”
The Hornets stay undefeated with a 7-0 record, including a big 77-60 victory against Section 6A rival Pelican Rapids. Those wins boost Henning to a 58.6 QRF, which ranks the defending Section 6A champs fourth in all of Class A.
“We’re playing really well right now. Shooting the ball well. Playing with a lot of confidence from our guys. It’s been really fun in practice seeing us grow and I’m just excited for these next steps here,” said Misegades.
The Hornets will put their undefeated record to the test as they continue their holiday tournament in Fergus Falls Wednesday at 1 p.m. with a matchup against the host school Fergus Falls. Then the Hornets return to Park Region Conference play on Tuesday, January 6 in Sebeka.
Now that Misegades has reached 2,000 career points. He and the Hornets are looking to make noise once again in the Section 6A playoffs.
“Just continue to play well, share the basketball. That’s what’s going to make our team the best and we’ll see what we can do in March.”
