Osakis Completes Comeback Against Staples-Motley For First Section Win Of 2025

OSAKIS, Minn.– It was a battle of two volleyball squads in Section 6AA who came into Tuesday night’s matchup looking for their first section win. The Osakis Silverstreaks (1-3) hosted the Staples-Motley Cardinals (2-4). Osakis was 0-1 in 6AA play coming into the match while Osakis was 0-4 in their first four attempts in 2025. Both teams featured squads with young players looking to make the most of their first taste of varsity experience.

The Staples-Motley Cardinals came into the match at 2-4 on the season. Sets one and two of the match went to the Cardinals by scores of 25-22 and 25-19, respectively. Momentum was quickly captured by Osakis as the Silverstreaks went on to take the third set at a 25-13 clip. Osakis continued their hot streak by hanging on to win the fourth set 25-23. In a down to the wire, decisive fifth and final set, it was Osakis who completed the comeback and won the final frame 15-8.

Leading the way for the Silverstreaks was Eliana Weiner with 12 kills and 4 service aces. Osakis setter Stephanie Mages finished with 7 kills and 4 service aces.

For the Cardinals, their offense was led by Hanna Cole. She paced their scoring with 12 kills on the evening. Sophomore Clara Maros had 11 kills. Pamela Lawrence finished with 3 service aces, same for Chloe Trantina.

This was the first time Osakis has beaten Staples-Motley in volleyball in school history. The Silverstreaks are now 1-2 all time against Staples-Motley dating back to 2023.

Staples-Motley is off for the rest of the week. They will travel to Pine River-Backus to take on the Tigers on Monday, September 8 at 6:45 p.m.

Osakis travels to Swanville for their first Prairie Conference game of the season. First serve is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
