WADENA, Minn.– It was a meeting of two familiar foes in central Minnesota football who haven’t faced each other in over half a decade.
The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines (1-1) hosted the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs (2-0), a matchup that hasn’t taken place since these two teams met last in 2018.
It was a 34-14 victory for the Bulldogs, who stay undefeated in the young season and improve to 3-0.
Wolverine fans were ready for the school’s home opener. The Bulldogs return to Class A 11-Man football after spending the last two seasons in Class 9-Man. OTC reached the 9-Man State Semi-Final Game at US Bank Stadium in 2023.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was a two headed operation at running back. Senior running backs Will Schwartz and Tayden Soma each rushed in two scores. Some racked up 76 rushing yards while Schwartz led all runners on the day with 108 yards on the ground.
The Wolverines got a massive play in special teams with an 85-yard kickoff return by freshman Preston Peterson in the second quarter. Caden Nemeth also reached paydirt with a fourth quarter score.
Otter Tail Central will return home to host Lake Park-Audubon in Battle Lake. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The Wolverines will stay home for another week when they welcome the Breckenridge Cowboys next Friday night at 7 p.m.
