OTC Sheriff’s Office Issues Scam Alert For Fraudulent Calls

OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn.– Officials with the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office are issuing a scam alert to notify the public of fake calls from scammers pretending to be members of the sheriff’s department.

Here is the statement from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

“Our office has been notified of a scam call going around the area. Caller reported that they received a call from a party claiming to be Sgt. Mekash with the OTC Sheriff’s Office, and it was in regard to HIPPA paperwork.

As always do not give out personal information over the phone to include social security numbers, dates of birth, and medical or banking information. If you cannot decipher if a phone call is a scam call our non-emergency number to reach dispatch. 218-998-8555.”
