On 2/27/26, at approximately 2102 hrs, Otter Tail Dispatch received a report of a stolen vehicle from an address South of the city of New York Mills, MN

The stolen vehicle was located by deputies at short time later, at which point the driver, Rene Torres, attempted to flee. Otter Tail County deputies utilized tire deflation devices and a pursuit intervention technique to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver was then taken into custody without incident. Torres is currently being held at the Otter Tail County Detention Facility facing charges of motor vehicle theft, fleeing in a motor vehicle, and 3rd degree burglary. Otter Tail County deputies were assisted by personnel from Minnesota State Patrol, New York Mills Fire Department, and Astera Ambulance.
