GLYNDON, Minn.– A career milestone was reached for a longtime Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines starter. Junior Payton Gravelle scored her 1,000th career point Friday night against the Section 8AA opponent Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels.

“Shout out to Payton Gravelle for reaching 1,000 points for her career tonight! A well deserved honor and achievement for a kid who works incredibly hard and is an awesome leader,” WDC head girls basketball coach Jordan Cresap.

Gravelle has been a mainstay in the Wolverine starting lineup. The WDC post has been on the varsity squad since her 7th grade season. Known for her defense and rebounding as well as her scoring ability. Friday night on the road, she reached the 1,000 point number in an 8-point effort against a solid DGF squad.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines, the Rebels spoiled the party with a 60-44 win on their home floor.

“Tough battle in DGF tonight,” said Cresap. “Credit to Couchman and Garrett for playing very well tonight. Just didn’t quite have the fire power to hang with them. Thought our girls competed tough, just had some sloppy turnovers which kept it out of reach.”

The Wolverines fall to 6-2 on the season and 1-2 in Section 8AA play. More tough opponents are on the way as WDC hosts Minnewaska Area (8-2) on Tuesday night in Wadena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night and then they go on the road to take on 8AA and Park Region Conference opponent Menahga Braves (8-0) on Thursday night with a 7 p.m. tip-off.

DGF continues an impressive season to move to 10-1 on the campaign.
