Wadena-Deer Creek GBB Gets Weekend Sweep With Wins Over Bertha-Hewitt & Crookston

WADENA, Minn.– The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines girls basketball team came into Friday evening with a 6-game winning streak. Now, that winning streak continues to grow with a pair of weekend victories over Bertha-Hewitt Bears (8-11) and Crookston Pirates (4-15).

Immediately grabbing control of the game, Wadena-Deer Creek started the game on a 20-3 run and didn’t look back from there. Final score was 86-34 in favor of the Wolverines. Leading the Wolverines in points on the night was Lily Parker with 21 points on the night. Right behind Parker’s total was Ashely Pavek, who scored 18 points in the victory.

Aulani Johnson finished in double figures with an 11 point performance to lead the Bears offense. Piper Dean recorded 9 points.

“Great ball movement and teamwork from our girls tonight! Loved the energy, effort and enthusiasm from the team,” said Wadena-Deer creek Wolverines head girls basketball coach Jordan Cresap.

An afternoon tip-off in Crookston immediately followed for the Wolverines. It led to a 72-45 rout of the Pirates. Payton Gravelle paced WDC with 16 points. Pavek ended the day with another double-digit performance with 13 points.

“Good effort by our girls today in Crookston. Thought we rebounded well and took good care of the ball,” said Cresap. “We continue to have various players step up to challenges which is great to see. ”

As the winning streak approaches 10 games, Wadena-Deer Creek (14-4) will host Section 8AA rival Park Rapids Area Monday night with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Wolverines will then host the Henning Hornets on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. and wrap up the week with a neutral site Section 8AA game in Moorhead against Barnesville on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Bertha-Hewitt goes on the road with a Section 5A matchup against Swanville Monday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
