Wadena-Deer Creek XC packs tight at ABW Booster Invite; boys 2nd, girls 4th

ADA, Minn (KWAD) — Wadena-Deer Creek Cross Country turned in one of its most balanced efforts of the fall Thursday at the Ada-Borup-West Booster Invitational, with the boys finishing runner-up by just three points and the girls placing fourth in a 12-team field.

Senior Grant Nelson led the charge with a 3rd-place finish in 17:19.0. Senior Owen Anderson followed in 5th (17:28.5) and freshman Lane Kaufman was 8th (17:47.5). Seniors Evan Schmidt (10th, 18:05.3) and Brennan Simmons (14th, 18:25.7) closed the scoring for a tight 1–5 spread of 1:06.

Sophomore Noah Stroeing ran a PR for 15th place (18:25.9) and senior James Seelhammer (16th, 18:27.2) was right behind him.
WDC’s 34 points trailed only Hawley (31) and finished ahead of Roseau (71).

Junior Karly Haverkamp climbed the podium in 3rd (20:24.2) to pace the Wolverines. Junior Brielle Kern added a 13th in 21:40.8, with junior Annika Spicer 23rd (22:17.2), senior Cambrie Geiger 32nd (22:46.0) and freshman Danya Spicer 35th (23:20.3) rounding out the top five. Seniors Lydia Oldakowski (36th, 23:27.5) and Katelyn Reinke (51st, 25:26.1, PR) provided depth.

WDC totaled 97 points, behind Riverside Christian (48), Barnesville (75) and Hawley (94).

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton’s Owen Winter won the boys’ title in 16:36.5. Riverside Christian’s Emelia Arntson captured the girls’ crown in 20:03.9.
