Wolverines Outlast Menahga In Highway 71 Rivalry Football

MENAHGA, Minn.– Friday night featured a matchup of two teams in Section 6AA looking for their first section win of the season between the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines (1-3) and the Menahga Braves (0-4).

The Wolverines prevailed for a 36-30 victory on the road.

WDC overcame a 14-0 first quarter deficit to go on a 36-16 run the rest of the game for the victory. The Wolverines were led by Leo Petrowski’s 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Cam Snyder was 3/7 passing for 122 yards, with 1 touchdown pass and 1 interception while also racking up 29 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown.

Wide receiver Tyler Phipps hauled in 2 catches for 87 yards and a score. Senior running back Ettore Pinnella finished the night with 5 carries for 30 yards and his first rushing touchdown of the season.

The Wolverine defense also recorded a safety in the final two minues of play. Making it the second safety they have caused this season. The first came in WDC’s 8-0 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in week 1.

Menahga was looking for a victory on Homecoming night. The Braves were buzzing with an early 14-0 lead thanks to a couple of long touchdowns from Connor Foley, the first going for 43 yards and the second score coming from 23 yards out. Foley would later add a 50 yard touchdown strike as well. Conrad Koll would also reach paydirt for the Braves on a 5 yard rushing touchdown.

The Braves were led on the ground by Koll, who had 52 rushing yards and a touchdown on the night. Foley had 37 yards rushing and 78 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. Dean Torma had 98 yards receiving as well. Freshman quarterback Creed Koll finished the night going 10/15 for 181 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.

The Braves (0-5) will look to get win no. 1 on the season when hey travel to New York Mills this Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
