ALEXANDRIA, Minn.– Minnesota prep basketball will once again be sending one of its own into NCAA Division-I basketball next season. Standout forward Alex Thompson, a senior for the Alexandria Cardinals, announced his intentions yesterday to play college basketball for Clemson in a post on X.

Thompson’s final decision came down to a pick between Clemson and Iowa. He took a visit to Clemson’s campus in South Carolina last weekend. According to 247sports.com, Thompson is ranked as the no. 2 basketball prospect in Minnesota for the class of 2025. Officially listed as a 3-star prospect, Thompson also ranked as the 94th-best prospect in the nation as a 2025 graduate according to Rivals.com In addition to being a top-ranked basketball player, Thompson is also thriving on the gridiron. On Friday against Brainerd, he threw for 5 touchdown passes as the Cardinals beat the Warriors 55-17.
