A busy opening weekend for the 2026 Minnesota Baseball Association State Tournament saw plenty of action for our local teams. Two advanced two the second weekend, while two saw their season come to a close.
Let’s break it all down.
Saturday, August 22
New York Mills Millers – 1 @ New Prague Orioles – 4
- New York Mills took a 1-0 lead into the top of the 8th inning but New Prague hung up a 4-spot in the frame in large part to a Gavin Bergman 3-run home run
- Speaking of Bergman, he struck out 11 Miller bats over 7.1 innings of one-run ball for the Orioles
- Brayden Ehnert drove in the lone run for the Millers
Ada Athletics – 2 vs. Urbank Bombers – 5
- Alex Koep got the nod on the bump for Urbank, throwing 6 innings of 1-run ball and wracked up 8 strikeouts
- Hunter Haggenmiller closes the game out on the mound pitching in the final 3 innings, allowing 1 run, and collected 1 strikeout
- Koep also notched 3 hits and an RBI on the day to pace the Bomber lineup. Joe Johnson collected the lone Urbank extra-base hit with a triple
Sunday, August 23
Nimrod Gnats – 0 vs. Atwater Chuckers – 10
- It was all Atwater thanks to Joshua Kingery chucking on the mound. In a 6-inning effort, he totaled 8 strikeouts and allowed just a pair of baserunners in the victory
- Connar Johnson recorded the lone hit for the Gnats with a double
- Clay Erickson, Gavin Klevgaard, and Gunnar Ament all pitched for the Gnats in the contest
- Congrats to the Nimrod Gnats on making the state tournament and on a great season!
Bluffton Braves are in the Class B State Tournament and had a first round bye.
