
BERTHA, Minn.– It was a battle of two Park Region Conference teams Thursday night looking for their first conference win. The Bears were 0-1 so far in PRC play, while the Eagles hadn’t played a game in conference until Thursday night.
The match was also a battle between two first-year head coaches in Sammie McDaniel for Bertha-Hewitt and Harley Wurst for New York Mills.
The Bears came away with a victory in 3 sets, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-18.
Leading the way ion scoring for Bertha-Hewitt was junior Kendal Beyatt with 11 kills and 1 service ace. Also scoring for the Bears was senior Piper Dean with 8 kills and 4 service aces. Sophomore Jasmine Williams had 6 kills and 2 aces.
The Eagles had their offensive attack paced by senior Annika Dunrud with 7 kills, while junior Alivia Preuss notched 6 kills. Senior Gabi Vaden recorded 4 kills and 3 service aces in the match.
With the win, B-H improves to 6-3 on the season. New York Mills goes to 2-6 overall.
Bertha-Hewitt will travel to Laporte on Tuesday for a Section 5A matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
New York Mills will go on the road for a match on Monday at Brandon/Evansville for a 7 p.m. first serve.
