Section championship week has arrived across Minnesota girls hockey, and for several area teams, history is on the line.

Section 6A

The Fergus Falls Otters (11-14) are chasing a fourth straight Section 6A title as they take on the St. Cloud Crush (15-9) Thursday night in Alexandria at 6:00. The two teams split their regular season series. Fergus Falls earned a 2-1 win on December 2nd, while the Crush responded with a 3-2 victory on January 15th.

Despite the Otters’ sub-.500 record, their championship experience makes them dangerous in this spot. St. Cloud enters with the better overall mark, but this rubber match will decide who punches a ticket to the state tournament.

Section 8A

In 8A, perennial powerhouse Warroad (18-5-1) looks to capture its 11th consecutive Section title when it hosts East Grand Forks (13-9-1) Thursday night at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

Warroad’s quest for a fourth straight state championship ended last season with a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss to Dodge County, but the Warriors remain one of the state’s most dominant programs. They won the lone regular season meeting against EGF 4-0 on December 11th.

East Grand Forks is seeking its first state tournament berth since 2014, when the Green Wave made a run all the way to the Class A championship game before falling to Blake 3-2.

Section 8AA

Over in Section 8AA, top-seeded Bemidji (16-5-1) is aiming for its first state tournament appearance since 2007 and just the third in program history. Standing in their way is the two-seed Moorhead Spuds (13-9-3), who last reached state in 2023.

Moorhead won the only regular season matchup between the two teams, defeating Bemidji 4-1 on January 20th. The championship game is set for 6:00 in Bemidji.

The Girls State Hockey Tournament run February 18th thru 21 at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.
