Today was one of our favorite days at the radio station: Pizza Ranch and FunZone Arcade Mystery Jersey Day.
We’ve been teasing it all week… A mystery autographed baseball jersey from Pizza Ranch in Wadena just waiting to be revealed. Guaranteed to be an All-Star caliber player or better. When we did one of these last spring to celebrate baseball Opening Day, we gave away an autographed Wade Boggs jersey. 5x batting champ, 3,000-hit-club member and HOF class of 2005.
Before we even opened it, the guesses were flying:
-
Johnny Damon in his A’s days?
-
Vlad Guerrero rocking the Expos?
-
Maybe even a Fred McGriff Braves throwback?
The box came open slowly—because, well, unboxing is a skill Corey is still working on—and there it was: A black jersey. Number one. New York Mets. Wilson.
Could it be…?
Yep. Mookie Wilson.
That’s right—1986 World Series champion and owner of one of the most iconic ground balls in MLB history. The one that trickled through Bill Buckner’s legs and helped seal the deal for the Mets. That Mookie Wilson.
And let’s be clear—this wasn’t just any jersey.
This was a signed, old-school Mets jersey with Mookie’s signature right there on the number one. Pure nostalgia. Pure baseball joy.
If you’re not familiar with Mookie, here’s the quick rundown:
-
Center fielder for the Mets (1980–1989) and Blue Jays (1989–1991)
-
Led the league in at-bats in 1983 with 638
-
Got Rookie of the Year votes in ‘81 and MVP votes in ‘89
-
Most importantly? A staple in Mets lore forever
So, who won this beauty?
Congrats to LUKE!
All the folks who guessed National League on the YouTube stream were entered into our random drawing, and Luke came out on top. Lukie + Mookie = baseball magic.
Huge thanks to the crew at Pizza Ranch and FunZone Arcade in Wadena for making this possible. Remember, mystery jerseys are just one of the awesome prizes you can win when you hit the FunZone. Tons of games, tons of fun, and yeah—even a little baseball history.
