“Local Legends” Exhibit Opens At NYM Cultural Center

In a press release from the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, they’ve announced its new gallery exhibit “Local Legends.”

NEW YORK MILLS, MN, January 30, 2024—The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is pleased to announce its new gallery exhibit “Local Legends.”  This show features the art of 11 regional artists. This inspiring show runs from Feb 1 through March 2, 2024. A reception will be held on Friday, February 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Works of art in the show vary greatly in style, materials, and techniques, and feature many early works from some of the most well-known artists in our area. Each artist in this show has a unique and deep connection to the Cultural Center.  Many of the artists featured worked at the Center in its earlier years and continue to volunteer, show their work, and teach workshops.  

Artists in this show include; Sher Elkin: batik garments and wall hangings, Kent Scheer: small sculptural pieces, Tim Cassidy: early metal works, Jerry Mevissen: art spanning 60 years, Pam Robinson: well-known style of painted and assembled works, John Peeters: wildlife carving and paintings,, Jamie Robertson: photography, Lina Belar: poetry and photography, Shirlee Aho Daulton: mixed media pieces, Linda Koutsky: photographs, and Lynn Kasma: mixed media pieces. This show will captivate your imagination and inspire you to continue to create or explore your own creativity.

At the reception on Friday, February 23, several artists will be on hand to discuss their work, techniques, and styles. The reception held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. is free to attend and open to all. Artist talks will begin at 5 pm.  Refreshments will be available.

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center Gallery is free to see and open to the public.  Gallery Hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-7pm, Fridays 10am-5pm, and Saturdays 10am-3pm.  Private viewings can be arranged anytime by calling Cheryl Bannes at 218-385-3339 or emailing cheryl@kulcher.org.
