(KWAD) Deerwood, Minn – The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Board of Directors approved several key changes during its first meeting of the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, including a new venue for the state cross country meet and an adjusted schedule for the 2027 state basketball tournaments.
The Board approved moving the 2026 Girls and Boys Cross Country State Meet to Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7. Majestic Oaks has hosted numerous high school cross country competitions over the years.
The change comes after the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course, which hosted the past three state meets, closed following the 2025 season. The University of Minnesota Board of Regents voted to explore selling the property, and the sale was completed in late June 2026. Prior to that, the state Cross Country Meet was held at St. Olaf College in Northfield from 1992-2002.
The Board also approved a revised schedule for the 2027 Girls and Boys Basketball State Tournaments. The girls tournament will be held March 24-27, with the boys tournament following one week later, March 31 through April 3. Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota will serve as the primary venue for both tournaments. The schedule adjustment was made in part because the arena is scheduled to host NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament games March 17-20, 2027.
