“Window to the World: Finland” Opens September 22 at NYMRCC Gallery
Reflections from Summer Travel Experience
NEW YORK MILLS, MN, September 19, 2026— The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center will present Window to the World: Finland, a special exhibition featuring photographs, ephemera, souvenirs, keepsakes, and other mementos from the Cultural Center’s 2026 group excursion to Finland.
The exhibition will be on view September 22 through October 10, 2026, at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. A Closing Reception will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 1–3 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Window to the World: Finland offers visitors the opportunity to experience Finland through the eyes of local travelers who took part in the Cultural Center-organized immersive cultural experience. The exhibition brings together personal photographs and collected objects that reflect the places, landscapes, culture, and everyday experiences encountered during the journey.
“Our trip to Finland was truly action-packed, with something new around every corner. We explored small, niche museums and historic sites, experienced Finnish culture and cuisine, stayed in several different cities, got to pet reindeer, and even took on a river rafting adventure. One of the most magical parts of the trip was spending two nights at an ‘invisible’ lodge, an experience that was unlike anything many of us had ever done before. Window to the World: Finland gives us a chance to share the incredible variety of experiences, discoveries, and memories we brought home with our community,” said Megan Shirley-Ross, Artistic Director of the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center.
Rather than simply documenting the destinations visited, the exhibition provides a personal look at what it was like to experience Finland as part of the group of local New York Mills Regional Cultural Center travelers. Each photograph, souvenir, and piece of ephemera offers a glimpse into the memories and discoveries that made the trip meaningful.
Two Opportunities to Hear More About the Journey
In conjunction with the exhibition, the community will have two opportunities to learn more about the 2026 Finland excursion and hear directly from participants.
Coffee Talk with Elevate

NYMRCC Artistic Director Megan Shirley-Ross and local traveler Pat Fredley will reflect on their experiences during the Finland trip at a special Coffee Talk with Elevate at the New York Mills Public Library.
The casual gathering will give attendees an opportunity to hear stories from the travelers, learn more about their experiences, and discover some of the stories behind the photographs and objects featured in Window to the World: Finland. Coffee Talks with Elevate are informal community gatherings designed to encourage conversation, connection, and learning.

The exhibition will conclude with a closing reception at the Cultural Center on October 10. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition, hear stories and reflections from trip participants, and enjoy light refreshments as the community celebrates the journey and the memories represented in Window to the World: Finland.
