OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — Otter Tail County Treatment Court marked National Recovery Month with a gathering at Dr. Allen Magnuson Park in Fergus Falls.

Treatment court staff and participants, families, friends, and community partners came together for ice cream and time to visit. The event honored the progress people in the community are making in recovery. A graduate of the DWI court and the drug court also spoke at the event and shared their recovery story, along with Fergus Falls Chief of Police Justin Paul.

“This is a time to recognize the strength, courage and hard work of those who are on the journey of recovery,” remarked 7th Judicial District Judge Kevin Miller.

Judge Miller also thanked the people who support that work, including families, friends, treatment providers, probation officers, attorneys, and law enforcement.

Recovery Month is held each September. It honors people in recovery from substance use disorders and those who support them.

Treatment court offers another path through the justice system. Participants receive treatment and support while working closely with a judge and a team of professionals. The goal is lasting recovery and a safer community.

“As a treatment court, we see every day that recovery is not always an easy road,” Judge Miller said. “There can be setbacks and challenges, but there are also incredible successes. Every day someone chooses recovery is a day worth celebrating.”
