OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — Otter Tail County invites the public to an open house and ribbon-cutting at the new Henning Transfer Station on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 2-4 p.m. at 51122 Rocky Ridge Road.

Visitors can tour the new building, meet transfer station staff, and see how the site will serve residents and businesses.

Event schedule

  • 2-4 p.m.: Open house, refreshments, and tours.
  • 2:30 p.m.: Ribbon cutting, with remarks from Chris McConn, Solid Waste Director, and Otter Tail County Commissioner Bob Lahman. Photos to follow.

What the new building offers

The new transfer station makes it easier and safer to drop off trash and recycling. Features include:

  • Separate areas for residential and commercial traffic, so residents don’t have to share space with large trucks.
  • Space and equipment help bring single-sort curbside recycling to the whole county. Single-sort means all recyclables go in one bin.
  • An indoor tipping floor where residents can unload their trash out of the weather.
  • Indoor storage for most materials.
  • Indoor restrooms.

“This facility is a big part of how we’re changing the way we serve residents,” said Natalee Yates, Otter Tail County public information and education officer. “Our long-range plan calls for services that are safer, easy to use and ready for the future. Commercial single-sort recycling, an indoor tipping floor and a reuse center all move us in that direction.”
