The MSHSL Baseball Tournament is starting to take shape with Section Championships taking place across the state.
Locally, the Sebeka Trojans (Section 5A) and the Parkers Prairie Panthers (Section 6A) are still alive in their respective tournaments, and have advanced to their section championship games coming up on Thursday, June 5th.
Parkers Prairie are the defending section champion and finished as State runner-up in Class A in 2024. They advanced to the double-elimination section championship with no losses in the postseason, with wins over Rothsay, Breckenridge, Brandon-Evansville and Upsala/Swanville. They’ll have a rematch of the Section 6A title series from a year ago against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in Morris at 2:30 on Thursday. BBE needs to beat Parkers twice to advance to state.
Last year, Shane Hanson hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to send Parkers to state.
In Section 5A, the Sebeka Trojans need two wins to advance to their first state tournament since 2021. The Trojans had early wins against Lake Park-Audubon and Nevis before a late-inning 4-3 loss to Frazee in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Sebeka beat Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale and Mille Lacs to get back to the Section Championship series and a rematch against Frazee. Frazee was last in the state tournament in 1999. Sebeka and Frazee will square off at 4:30 in Pierz on Thursday afternoon. If needed, the second winner-take-all game will be at 7:00.
