State Volleyball Recap: Pequot Lakes Brings Home Title

The Pequot Lakes Patriots volleyball team are state champions!

The Patriots defeated Redwood Valley in the quarterfinals 3-2 after trailing 0-2. In the semifinals, they  defeated Caledonia 3-2 after, you guessed it, trailing 0-2. And in the championship, they handled Rush City 3-0.

After finishing as runners-up a season ago, Pequot Lakes brings the blue ribbons home! Congratulations!

Elsewhere around state volleyball:

Class A

  • Pine River-Backus drops their quarterfinal match to eventual champ Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and loses to West Central area in the consolation semifinals 3-2.
  • West Central Area loses their quarterfinal to New Life Academy 3-2, beats Pine River-Backus 3-2 in the consolation semis, and falls in 3 to Ely in the consolation final.

Class AA

  • Pequot Lakes wins the AA title!
  • Wadena-Deer Creek falls in the quarterfinals to Southwest Christian 3-1, then loses Annandale 3-2 in the consolation semifinals.

Class AA

  • Detroit Lakes beats Grand Rapids 3-0 in the quarterfinals, then loses to eventual champion Marshall in the semifinals 3-1, and losing to Byron 3-2 in the third place match.
