Suspect Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting At Frazee Rest Stop

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KWAD) — A domestic assault call in Becker County led to a multi-agency pursuit and an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening, according to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a report of a domestic assault at a residence in the 200 block of Becker County Highway 21. The caller reported that an adult male suspect had entered the home, physically assaulted the victim, and stolen a firearm.

Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle in Detroit Lakes, but the suspect fled when law enforcement attempted to make contact. Officers from the Detroit Lakes Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office joined in the pursuit.

The chase continued into Otter Tail County, ending at the Frazee Rest Area just off U.S. Highway 10. According to unconfirmed scanner traffic, authorities responded to the rest area around 5:45 p.m. following reports that a person had been shot.

Officers confronted the suspect at the rest area, where an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and officers immediately rendered aid.

The suspect was transported to Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes and later transferred to Essentia in Fargo. Their condition is unknown at this time. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating. All involved officers were wearing body-worn cameras, and the scene has been secured.
