Wadena-Deer Creek softball advances in Section 8AA tournament; will face top-seeded Roseau

WADENA, Minn (KWAD) – The 2026 Section 8AA softball tournament continued Tuesday with second-round action across northwest Minnesota, as several top seeds advanced deeper into the postseason bracket.

#4 Wadena-Deer Creek earned one of the biggest wins of the night, defeating #5 Park Rapids Area 7-5 to advance to the section semifinals. WDC, now 19-3 on the season, will face top-seeded Roseau Rams (19-2). The Rams shut out Warroad 9-0 Tuesday evening.

The Roseau-Wadena-Deer Creek semifinal is scheduled for in Roseau Thursday, May 21.

On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels advanced with an 8-0 win over Thief River Falls ProwlersBreckenridge-Wahpeton Cowboys pulled off the lone upset of the quarterfinal round, edging defending Section champion third-seeded Hawley Nuggets 4-3 to move into the semifinals.

Breckenridge-Wahpeton will now meet Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in the other semifinal matchup Thursday.

The elimination bracket also begins Thursday, with Warroad facing Park Rapids Area and Thief River Falls taking on Hawley.

The Section 8AA semifinals are scheduled for May 26 at a neutral site to be determined, with the championship series beginning May 28-29 under the Minnesota State High School League double-elimination postseason format.
