Later this month, the University of Minnesota Extension will share the results from the Welcoming Communities Assessment which was administered during November and December 2023. That meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 24th from 4:30-6:30 p.m.,

The meeting will be at the NYM City Hall Ballroom, hosted by Perham Health, and is open to the public. Organizers of the event say food will be provided and all are welcome.

Data from the assessment results to better understand strengths and areas of opportunity as a community. They will use the 2024 sessions to create action plans to be more welcoming in the future for the New York Mills community.

In early 2023, the City of New York Mills received a $10,000 grant from Otter Tail Lakes Country Association to embark on a Welcoming Communities Assessment and Plan.  A steering committee (led by NYM FWD) and learning cohort are working through the program and assessment throughout 2023 and into 2024.  The eight-month program requires participation from seven sectors of the community: schools, health care, law enforcement, business, local government, nonprofit organizations, and religious organizations.

Everyone who lives and works in New York Mills is invited to be part of Welcoming Communities! Further program details can be found online here: New York Mills Welcoming Communities.
