ST. PAUL, Minn.– As the Minnesota State High School League State Boys Basketball Tournament came to a close, so did the winter sports season for Minnesota high school sports. Over the weekend, a pair of local basketball coaches were nominated for some high awards from the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association.
Rich Spiczka of Pequot Lakes was named the Class AA Coach of the Year! He led the Patriots to a 28-5 record, a Section 7AA championship, and finished as the Consolation Champions in AA with a 51-44 win over Jackson County Central Friday afternoon at the State Tournament.

Marc Oscarson of Henning was named one of the nine MBCA Assistant Coaches of the Year. Oscarson, serving as the top assistant on the Henning boys basketball team helped guide the Hornets to a 26-3 record and their second consecutive Park Region Conference title.
