PELICAN RAPIDS, MINN (KWAD) No record was safe at the 2025 Section 6A Track and Field Meet at Pelican Rapids on May 29th. In all, eight section records fell at a fast, competitive meet as six Staples-Motley Cardinals, six Pillager Huskies, two Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines, and two Parkers Prairie Panthers advanced to the State Track and Field Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
SM’s Audrey Brownell was responsible for two of the records going down. Brownell broke the 1600m record with a time of 5:03.99, breaking Morris’ Nicole Scherr’s record of 5:05.60 and Pelican Rapids’ Mindy Stadler’s 3200m record of 11:15.13, also set in 1984, with a time of 11:12.97.
Two Cardinals holding Section Meet records saw their names move down the results list. Josh Smith set the 400m record with a 49.70 in 2004 saw his record eclipsed with Osakis’ Zackery Bruder’s 48.80. Arden Beachy’s pole vault record of 14-06 set in 1989 was bested by his son, Turner, with 14-07.
The 2018 Wadena-Deer Creek 4x200m relay team of P. Pantages, B. Loer, C. Domier and H. Hawkins (1:31.20) saw their record fall, bested by Osakis’ 1:29.10. The Osakis 4×400 team also set a new section meet record with a time of 3:22.908, beating the previous record set by Pequot Lakes 2018 record of 3:25.76).
Violette Metz (44.65) of Pillager and Lauryn Ankeny (44.83) both broke ABE’s Lucea Wales’ 2023 300m hurdles record (45.66)
Andrew Jones (37.62), who is also on both Osakis relay teams, broke Pequot Lakes’ Reid Pierzinksi’s 2018 300m hurdles record (38.21)
The Class A State Track and Field prelims begin at 3:30 on Tuesday, June 10th, with the Finals at 3:30 on Wednesday, June 11th.
